About

Downtime is expensive.

In 2018, Amazon lost $99 million dollars in a single hour because the website went down during the biggest sale of the year. It’s hard to make money when the lights are out!

But Failures Do Happen.

Most people never stop and think about the hidden world of pipes and wires behind all the technology we use today.

We live in a technology-driven society where everything is always connected. We have a dependence on computers, smartphones, and network connectivity.

And we take it for granted that behind the shiny user interface of our devices, there is a complex, critical infrastructure keeping everything working, all the time.

Whether you work in engineering, facilities, architecture, construction, information technology, or real estate, you know that businesses invest heavily in critical systems.

But have you ever wondered…

  • What exactly are Critical Systems?
  • Why are they so valuable?
  • Why should you learn about them?
  • How can you begin to grasp these technical, multi-disciplinary subject areas?
  • How can you expand your career into the Mission Critical industry?

If you have asked yourself any of these questions, you’ve come to the right place!

What if you could

  • Prevent failure events in your organization (e.g. during blackouts)
  • Recognize major business risks and propose technical solutions
  • Steer the investment of capital toward the most beneficial upgrades
  • Establish your credibility as a technical resource
  • Build a great reputation with your customers who expect reliability
  • Challenge professionals in your field to produce the best solutions
  • Accelerate your career progression

Learning about critical systems will enable you to do all of these things, and will satisfy your curiosity while equipping you with the technical explanations to back up your understanding.

In just one year, the course Critical Systems Engineering: Designing and Operating Mechanical & Electrical Systems for Mission Critical Facilities became a best-seller on Udemy with a 4.7 star rating, and has helped many more engineers and other professionals through this website’s course platform.

My Story

I have two passions: Engineering and Education.

Half of my 11 year professional career was spent with a large investment bank, the other half with a smaller trading and technology company. Between the two roles, I’ve had the opportunity to explore the entire Facility Life Cycle, from Maintenance & Operations to Design, Construction, and Commissioning. In 2014, I earned my Professional Engineering license in Mechanical: HVAC & Refrigeration.

Aside from my professional career, I’ve always enjoyed sharing knowledge with others on a similar journey. I spent 5 years running a tutoring company helping high school students with all levels of math, physics, and SAT prep. Since 2016, my focus has shifted to online course creation with a focus on helping aspiring engineers get their PE, and unlock new career opportunities.

One of my greatest joys is seeing people’s reactions when they come to truly understand a concept that is both technically challenging and undeniably valuable. That moment alone justifies my efforts, and hopefully yours as well.

Why I Made a Course

My mission is to accelerate your learning and give you a foundation from which to go deeper, so you can contribute more to your organization and take a shorter path towards career success.

By completing Critical Systems Engineering, you will be equipped to contribute to discussions about design strategy that reflect the objectives of your business, based on tried-and-true approaches. Every business is different, but I want you to be able to ask the right questions in order to find the balance between reliability, cost, and risk.
